Weekend Wrap up
Last weekend coaches and instructors gathered from around the province at the Saville Community Sports Centre for the 2nd Annual Basketball Alberta Coaching Conference. The weekend began Friday evening with the NCCP Learn to Train certification session while games were going on for the CIS/ACAC Pre-Season Showcase.
“What an exciting weekend of basketball development! The Go Centre was simply buzzing with CIS games, ACAC games, NCCP training, and Community Coaches training, as well as on court sessions run by basketball experts. What a privilege to have our Olympic Coaches, Allison McNeill and Lisa Thomaidis in our gym to share their Learning’s from London and also distribute ideas for introducing our athletes to the FIBA game. Participating coaches left the gym with a full, rich package that will certainly make a difference in their season.” - Shawnee Harle, Basketball Alberta Director of Coaching Development and Technical Director
Beginning Saturday morning with the Community Coaches Certification Program (CCCP) session till the final session on Sunday afternoon from Olympic and Canadian Women's head coach, Allison McNeill; the 2012 BACC truly had a variety of content avaialble for all coaching levels. Basketball Alberta was extremely happy to see both the quality of instruction as well as the participation of enthusiastic coaches from across the province who each came looking to improve as a coach and provide a better experience for their athletes. We are already looking towards how we can prepare and offer even more learning opportunities for next year's coaching conference. Thank you to all those coaches and instructors that gave their time to participate in this 2nd Annual BACC; we look forward to seeing you all on the court again next year!
"What a fantastic weekend of basketball!!! It was amazing to host the great basketball minds of Allison McNeill, Lisa Thomaidis and Shawnee Harle and to have them share their national caliber coaching experiences and knowledge with our coaches in Alberta. With such an elite front line of instructors we were also very fortunate to back them up with such qualified instructors of Doug Baker, Dave Oldham, Rob Poole, Paul Sir, Andre Lussier, Dave Drabiuk, Eric Magdanz and Barnaby Craddock! It was a fantastic opportunity for all the ambitious coaches in Alberta to improve their basketball knowledge over 2 days. We will continue to grow the event for next year and look forward to providing top notch basketball education for our coaches in Alberta." – Robyn Oldham BA Development Coordinator
"Over the past 15 years, I have been to numerous coaching clinics, camps, and sessions throughout Canada and the United States. I say with 100% certainty that the applicable learning and growth as a coach was the most meaningful at the 2012 BACC, hosted in Edmonton. Having the opportunity to learn more about the FIBA game from the unparalleled coaches is something that I will take with me in training our elite CP athletes, and coaching both my high school and U15 community teams. Our basketball community is certainly better off for this coaching opportunity, and I look forward to the BACC next year! I highly recommend that coaches at ANY level would benefit from the Basketball Alberta Coaches Conference." - Dave Oldham
